Classic. Fun. Storied.
Rolex Stainless Steel Oyster Perpetual Datejust with Grey Buckley Dial and Original Box and Papers
The story goes like this. Ten years ago, John Buckley, a vintage Rolex dealer, took to the watch forums. At a time when collectors were most focused on Daytona Patizzi and Paul Newman Daytona dials, John was interested in the less popular and less common Rolex dials with painted roman numeral markers. In an attempt at humor and self-promotion, John declared these dials were henceforth to be known as “Buckley” dials. It stuck. Over time, Buckley dials have become more popular as collectors started seeking out the exotic Buckley dials in a variety of colors. Today, outside of Rolex Sport models, the Buckley dial is the only dial that is recognized with a moniker across the internet, in literature, and in auction catalogues.
